Local officials claim that the availability of broadband internet service in San Antonio is overestimated by a new national broadband map that will be used to allocate federal funds to states for future high-speed internet projects.
What’s more, the time period to address the guide — the cutoff time is Jan. 13 — implies the city and region could pass up pivotal government financing that could assist with extending broadband access.
Bexar County, the City of San Antonio, and SA Digital Connects condemned the new map in a joint letter sent to the Federal Communications Commission and the National Telecommunications Information Administration on Wednesday, stating that it “unquestionably overestimates the availability of broadband internet service in our community.”
